Lauren Conrad Rescues!!

February 3rd, 2009

Lauren Conrad

She is not just a young, successful, television beauty, Lauren Conrad is a dog lover.  Unlike many celebrities, she saved her pup from the pound.  Bless her!!  The MTV star rescued a Labrador/Shepherd mix and named her Chloe.  We are happy that she is making this politically correct statement, meanwhile other reality stars are using puppymill dogs as accessories.  I will not mention who, but I am sure you can figure it out.

Puppies aren’t for Christmas, they’re for life!

December 13th, 2008

I was searching the internet looking for good gifts to give children and I fell upon an article that angered me.  The article stated that puppies were a cute and fun gift to give.  I could not disagree more!!

I went to a website called helpinganimals.com and they summed it up for me.  They touched on many reasons why “puppies aren’t stocking stuffers”.  The article mentioned that “children can be cruel.  Whether or not it is intentional, children are sometimes cruel to animals.  Tiny animals are especially vulnerable.  Small children may unintentionally torment and/or harm animals, even breaking fragile or causing fatal injuries.”  I remember hearing a story about how an animal rescue organization found a Yorkie with shaken baby syndrome dying behind the couch in the home of a child.

Helpinganimals.com also added that “animal shelters are filled beyond capacity with homeless animals.  Many of them being former “pets” that were easily acquired but, for one reason or another didn’t fit into someone’s lifestyle.  Some people regard these living beings as expendable.  Unwanted animals are often passed from home to irresponsible home as the novelty of having an animal wears thin”.

I also read another article that stated Christmas time is a time when puppy millers gear up for this holiday by forcing already over bred females to give birth to more puppies to satisfy consumer demand.  If you are unaware about what puppy mills are, go to banpuppymills.com. We at BUSTER & SULLIVAN are passionate about abolishing these torture chambers.  Rescuing a dog is a great step in stopping these criminals.

Especially during a time of economic hardship, rescuing a dog would be your best bet.  Spend the money on giving your dog adequate healthcare, food and maybe even a cozy bed if they are not sleeping in yours!

Because Dogs Get Cold Too!

December 13th, 2008

I remember hearing on Good Morning America last year that if you are cold when you venture outside, your dog is likely to be cold.  Because the temperatures are dipping and winter is among us, you may want to consider buying your dog a sweater or coat.  I have a little Chihuahua and he cannot get warm enough.  He would live under my bed covers if he could.  He definitely needs a coat or sweater when we go out on a walk.

I am not sure if people quite understand that dogs do get cold regardless of their coats.  Dogs have become so domesticated that their coats are not sufficient enough for certain climates.  I found some information concerning this issue on PETA’s website, www.peta.org.   Karen from PETA writes “the biggest, strongest, toughest-looking pit bull or Doberman can be seen looking hunched over and miserable outside because their short, thin coats are not doing it for them. This is one reason why it’s so tragic that Dobermans are often used as guard dogs. They have to endure loneliness and freezing-cold temperatures.”   You can buy warm clothing that is cheap and clothing that is expensive.  For example, for your little one you try a fashionable fur trimmed toggle coat, like the one seen above for only $38.95.  For your bigger pup, you could try “Gwennie’s Big Sports Vest” for $45.95.  All are found on our website.
Karen also mentions that “a good rule of thumb is this: If you feel comfortable in a light jacket and your dog has a medium-thick coat, everything should be fine. If you feel the need to put on a heavier coat and mittens, then start thinking about buying outerwear for your dog too.”
Boots can also be a good choice if the temperature drops really low.  “Epiks” from Buster & Sullivan would be a great idea to protect those little piggies.

Norman’s Collar

December 4th, 2008

jen aniston dog collar

In the December 2008 edition of Vogue magazine, Jennifer graces the cover looking fantastic.  While fashionistas are admiring her Gucci blouse or her Michael Kors dress, I noticed her cute dog, Norman, and the fantastic collar he is wearing.   Even though I was admiring her tan, I knew I had seen that collar before.   Duh, we carried that collar in our stores.

Not so long ago, Ms. Aniston lived in Malibu where our Malibu store was.  Although we never had the pleasure of having her in our store, we are pretty sure someone picked it up for her at Buster & Sullivan.  We carried that exact collar and it was one of our most popular!

If you cannot live without that collar, we can get it for you.  Just drop us an email and let us know the size of your dog’s neck and we will send it ASAP.   The leather is a chocolate brown, and very strong.  Because of its quality, the collar will last for years!!  The stones in the middle are turquoise while silver studs run parallel on both sides.   This collar will be for a dog no smaller than 30 pounds.  Smaller versions are available but do not include the two rows of studs.

So email me if you have to have it!
